Course Goal

The goal of the face-to-face portion of the Instructor Development Course (ICD) is for participants to gain or improve instructional knowledge, skills, and proficiency in teaching with HSI.

Course Audience

The course audience is persons with little or no previous teaching experience who desire or require sufficient competency to teach, elevate, and certify participants in HSI training programs who have successfully completed the self-directed online portion of the HSI IDC (Instructor Development Course) and are ready to practice leading a training class.

Participants Prerequisites

  • The recommended minimum age to undergo an ICD is seventeen (17). Maturity, responsibility, and classroom presence should always be considered, regardless of age.
    • ICs must demonstrate a strong cognitive grasp of the subject matter they wish to teach and be able to proficiently demonstrate all skills taught in the student-level program.
    • Current, valid student-level certification in the training program the candidate wishes to teach and/or, at minimum, competent demonstration of student-level skills for:
      • ADULT,CHILD,INFANT ONE PROVIDER CPR AED.
      • ADULT FIRST AID-SEVERE, LIFE-THREATING EXTERNAL BLEEDING.
      • ADULT FIRST AID -SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION
    • Medical knowledge and experience (clinical competence) are strongly recommended for ICs who intend to train healthcare professionals.
